Chefs from all over Austin competed for the title of “Citywide 86’d” champion. Ben Schwartz of Uchiko was declared the winner of the annual event, which had four finalists battling in a culinary ‘Hunger Games’ series of challenges for the ultimate prize package!
The Chefs were pushed to their limits in front of a sold out crowd, with new surprises and twists at every turn. There were three elimination challenges, time limitations and secret ingredients that were selected prior to the competition like; Corn Pops cereal, purple drink, cheese curds and gin. These surprise ingredients may seem tough to incorporate in five-star-meal, but judges were blown away with the sophistication level in each dish from the chefs!
Finalists included; Lauren Ortiz of Uchi, Bradley Nicholson of Barley Swine, Ben Schwartz of Uchiko and Murphy Park of Searsucker—and Schwartz took home the gold. The first place prize package included an engraved stock pot from Mission Restaurant Supply, one week stage in two top Chicago restaurants and tons more!
