Top 5 things to do in Austin for Labor Day

AUSTIN (KXAN/KNVA) — Labor Day is upon us and so is the reminder that summer is truly coming to an end.

But CW Austin Entertainment Reporter, Joe Barlow and our friends at Austin Monthly want you to make the most of the 3 day weekend.

Associate Editor, Kimya Kavehkar joined Joe to share her Top 5.

#5: 2nd Annual Labor Day Weekend Keg Party at Josephine House

“They are going to take you back to your college days,” says Kimya. “And have a little kegger on their lawn to celebrate the home opening game for the longhorns. So they are going to be showing the game on two big screens on Sunday, having fried chicken, homemade ice cream drumsticks, so should be casual but kinda rowdy.”

#4: W Austin’s Soundwave, Labor Day Edition

“They have a wonderful pool up there that is usually just limited to people who are staying at the hotel but now everyone can go up there on Monday uh and enjoy the pool. They are going to have dj’s, they are going to have drink specials, and they have these little cute cabanas that you can stay in if you wanna have a little bit of privacy so it should be really fun.”

#3: Labor Day Pignic at Salty Sow

“They are going to roast an entire pig and they are going to have little things where you can make your own tacos. So tortillas, guacamole, all house made and they are going to have three-dollar beer can specials. So for eating and drinking that’s really gonna be the place to be on Monday.”

#2: Free Day of Yoga

“Between all that eating and drinking, you’re gonna wanna try to get a workout in, so um lots of studios around town are hosting free yoga classes as well as places as Whole Foods and UMLAUF Sculpture Garden. So no matter what your level of yoga is or what type of yoga you like to do, they’ll definitely have a free class that you can participate in.”

#1: Out of Bounds Comedy Festival

“It’s three days of sketch, improv, stand-up, every type of comedy you could ever dream of and there is gonna be lots of local and national acts in there and even workshops if you are interested in getting into the entertainment industry. So it should be super fun.”
