Comic books and spandex: Super Hero of the Week

AUSTIN (KXAN/KNVA) — The CW is the network with all the super heroes, but we realized there are everyday heroes right here in central Texas.

And we found some heroes in a secret hideout in the gift shop at St. David’s Medical Center.

Secret Identity Comics started with just seven comic book titles. Now everywhere you look you’ll see a familiar character.

“I’m always hearing people go, ‘This is amazing that this is in here!'” says employee, Brandon Philbrick.

But it’s not an ordinary shop and this is what makes them heroes: it is non-profit.

“Our goal is to put a smile on people’s face,” says gift shop buyer/manager, John Moss. “Because people who come to the hospital- it’s not always for positive things. So when they come in here they may be stressed, and we want them to have a smile when they go out, regardless of whether they buy anything or support our scholarship fund. How can you have a bad job if that’s what you’re doing all day?”
